Weippe Community Hall

Weippe Community Hall
Weippe, Clearwater County

  • Grant: 2023 – Replacement of structural logs

Location: 202 Second Ave East Weippe, ID 83553

The land for the community center was donated by the Clearwater Improvement Company in 1924. Over the next two years, volunteers build the sturdy log building. It was initially used for elementary classrooms while the nearby school was being built. Since that time, it has been the setting for numerous community events, theatre productions, school reunions, drug and alcohol coalition events, weddings, funerals, dances, dinners, breakfasts, and many Lewis and Clark Bicentennial events.

The building is the only public space in the area able to accommodate larger crowds (up to 300 people) and has been an integral part of Weippe social life for the duration of its existence. The building is additionally significant for its axe-hewn logs, which harken back to Weippe and North Central Idaho’s timber and logging heritage. The area has seen significant population growth in recent years, so maintaining this connection to our shared heritage while also providing an important social function is as important now as ever. The space is available to rent by residents and State/Federal agencies.
