Twin Lakes Community Schoolhouse
Rathdrum, Kootenai County

  • Grant: 2016, 2019 – exterior painting

Location: 10017 West Twin Lakes Road, Rathdrum, ID 83858

The Upper Twin Lakes grade school was constructed in 1920 to accommodate the population growth of families moving into the Twin Lakes area. The school was the second of three Twin Lakes’ schools and is the only remaining school building preserved as it was originally. The charming 1,023-square-foot schoolhouse hosted students until 1947, when it was repurposed as ‘Twin Lakes Community Club’ and used for municipal events. It has continued to be used in this capacity even as its ownership has passed from the County to a private corporation and back again since 1990.

In 2017, The Twin Lakes Community Schoolhouse Foundation took over and have undertaken several preservation projects and intend to continue their stewardship of this piece of Twin Lakes history, both as an historic artifact and as an important venue for community activities and events.
