  • Grants: 2017

Location: Blaine County

Henry J. “Bob” Topping, Jr. constructed what is now known as The Ernest and Mary Hemingway Home and Preserve, in 1953 in the same style as the Sun Valley Lodge.  In November 1959, Ernest and Mary Hemingway moved from Cuba and purchased the home, overlooking the Big Wood River.  It was in this home that Ernest ended his life in 1961.  Mary Hemingway continued to use the home until her death in 1986.  The home remains unchanged since that time and still showcases a Hollywood style kitchen of the 1950’s.  The home is listed in the National Register of Historic Places with National significance and is now maintained by The Community Library.
