The N.L. Terteling Library has served The College of Idaho since its dedication in Febrary, 1967. At the time of its dedication, it was hailed as “a beacon in space and time” by the dedication speaker. Designed by the Seattle firm of John Graham and Company (who also designed the Seattle Space Needle), Terteling Library has nurtured five of the eight Rhodes Scholars associated with the CofI.

The building is essentially unchanged since construction began in 1965. The low-rise stair treads and expansive plaza are one of the architectural design features that make this building an excellent example of mid-century architecture.
