Location: 214 Pine Street, Wallace, Idaho
The warm, redbrick St. Alphonsus Catholic Church sits on the southeast corner of Pine and Second streets, where it has for a century since its dedication in 1926. It was designed by Virgil Kirkemo of Missoula, MT in a Gothic Revival style. The building is noted for its contrasting white terracotta trim, three pointed arches, and a square corner belfry. The church has been home to the Wallace Catholic population for its entire existence and still hosts mass every Sunday.
In preparation for its 100th birthday, St. Alphonsus is removing and installing custom precast concrete kneelers, salvaging existing kneelers, and repainting the existing white surfaces re-create the original existing Kneeler.
It is listed as a contributing facet of the Wallace Historic District in the National Register of Historic Places.
