The school was one of the last Japanese culture schools in the nation.  The Japanese migrated to the Rexberg area beginning in the early 1900s to work as farm laborers.  The Rexberg school was created as a Japanese language school and operated for 16 years.  In 1941 Japan attacked Pearl Harbor.  Some of the young men educated in the Japanese culture schools worked in military intelligence.
