The squat brick building with wide, inviting windows is one of the last vestiges of Post Falls’ historic downtown. Built in 1923 by local businessman and pharmacist Walter F. Chapin. The Chapin family were prominent members of the Post Falls community for over 40s, after which the building was used as a grocery store and a laundromat. Ownership of the building then fell to the City in 1979, first housing the police department for more than two decades, then home to the parks and recreation department for several years following.

The building was converted into a museum in 2009 and is overseen by the Post Falls Historical Society. The old Chapin Drug Store is open to curious museum-goers from May to October every year as part of their goal to establish Post Falls as an ‘Idaho Heritage City’. The building is an important bridge between old and new Post Falls, with close proximity to several other buildings of historic significance, and is a mere 20 yards from the Captain John Mullan Statue, the restoration of which was also funded by IHT.
