Magruder Ranger Station is located in Idaho approximately 35 air miles west of Darby, Montana on the West Fork Ranger District of the Bitterroot National Forest.  Magruder was originally known as the Deep Creek Ranger Station, and served as a district headquarters on the old Selway National Forest.  Ole Tangen, a Forest Service employee known for his log construction skills constructed both the ranger’s residence and office building.  The Magruder buildings reflect Tangen’s abilities in the perfection of the building logs and the precision of their saddle-notched joints.   The ranger’s residence is available year round through the Forest Service cabin rental program.
