The Mountain Home Museum was built in 1908. It was designed by Tourtellotte and Hummel and served as a Carnegie Library for nearly 70 years. When a new library was built in 1976, the building passed to the Historical Society. Mr. John Caldwell, a member of the original library board remembered, “Tourtellotte and Hummel of Boise submitted the plans for three buildings, each to cost $6000, and we expressed our preference and forwarded them to Mr. Carnegie’s secretary. In passing I might say that we never received so much as Mr. Carnegie’s autograph. His private secretary signed all the agreements.”
