Jail House and Sheriffs Office
Mackay, Custer County
- Grants: 2022(roof replacement, trusses restored)
Location: 213 S Main St, Mackay ID 83251
In 1902 Mackay was established at the railhead of the Oregon Short Line in the Lost River Valley when mining became prominent in the area. Subsequently there was a need for a jail house and sheriff’s office during the initial growth of Mackay. The Jail house is on the same property as the Cigar Shop, a centerpiece for Main Street. The restoration of the Jail House will be used to showcase the early buildings of Mackay.
The project is being overseen by the South Custer County Historical Society. For more information please reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org
