Lemhi County Courthouse
Salmon, Lemhi County

  • Grant: 2000

Location: 206 Courthouse Drive, Salmon, Idaho 83467

W.W. Schultz, the builder of the classically inspired courthouse, arrived in Salmon in 1899 from Kansas to construct the Lincoln School.  After its completion in 1901, Schultz remained in Lemhi County and constructed the courthouse between 1909 and 1910.  Architect C.C. Rittenhouse provided the blueprint for the building and the locals provided the rest.  Most of the building materials came from Lemhi County, including granite stones from Governor George Shoup’s quarry west of Salmon and bricks made by local mason, Francis Pollard.  George Oxham of Ogden, Utah sculpted the statue of Justice which graces the roof, the stone columns and the trim.
