The Idaho Shotgun Museum is located on Boise Gun Club Property. The building was completed in June of 2025 to chronicle the history of shotgun shooting sports in Idaho, as well as the various changes in Idaho culture over the years from clothing styles to methods of transportation and recreational activities.
The Boise Gun Club has existed since the late 1800s and has variously called Hulls Gulch (current sight of Boise State University), Barber Dam, and now East Kuna-Mora Road home for 53 years. It, like many similar clubs in cities and towns throughout the state, has been an important recreational and social hub for well more than a century. Hunting for both subsistence and recreation is a core part of many Idahoan’s identity, and the shotgun has been central to this for as long as it has existed.
The collection on display at the Museum has been gathered over the last 65 years, most of which have been held in storage until a building was finally built where it could be displayed. At the present time we have a large number of historical photos that need restoration or framing and (or) copies and enlargements to be better able to relate the shotgun sports to Idaho history.
They plan to pair the pictures with information and explanations of what is unique, unusual, or different from what we have today, while also drawing connections between people and events from the past and broader historical trends in clothing, transportation, occupations, and the way of life during that time period.
