The Glenns Ferry School was built in 1909 from sandstone quarried and transported by barge and wagon from south of the Snake River, and it initially served the entirety of eastern Elmore County. It served as a school up until 1965, and it fell into disrepair from neglect and vandalism. In 1986, the City of Glenns Ferry acquired the building and turned it over to the Glenns Ferry Historical Society to operate it as a museum.

The museum contains displays from the Pioneer days, the Oregon trail era, and boasts a robust assortment of Native artifacts. The collection also features many items from Glenns Ferry’s booming railroad days from 1909 up through the 1970’s. Proximity to Three Island State Park attracts hundreds of visitors from all over the country eager to learn about the unique history of Glenns Ferry from before the Oregon Trail to present day.

The building is listed in The National Register of Historic Places.
