Dough Boy Statue

  • Grants: 2017

Location: Veteran Memorial Park, 110 S. Bridge Street, St. Anthony, Idaho

The Idaho Doughboy statue is a monument to the fighting men of Fremont County who served in World War One (WWI).  It is a bronze figure of an infantryman wielding a rifle and carrying on his hip two German Helmets, souvenirs of victory.  A symbol of American heroism and individuality, the Doughboy was the informal term for an infantryman in WWI.  The sculpture was sculpted by Avard Fairbanks and purchased by the city in April 1922.  The Idaho Legislature chose Fairbanks to commission a Doughboy for every county in the state.  In the end, only two were erected in Fremont and Latah Counties.
