The Montpelier City Hall was built in the neo-classical revival style and was distinguished by its portico with tuscan style columns. The buff brick was produced by the Pressed brick and Tile company based in Ogden, Utah. The cornerstone for new City Hall was laid July 7, 1916. The City Hall building had a multitude of uses in its 100 years. In 1918 the building was used as the town mortuary’s overflow during a flu epidemic. It was also used as a jail, a kindergarten classroom, for food and clothing drives, dancing lessons, aerobics classes and special interest groups. The building was listed in the National Register of Historic Places as a part of the Montpelier Historic District. The L.D.S. Tabernacle, the local High School and the High School Gymnasium associated with the Montpelier Historic District still stand today.
