Idaho Heritage Trust Announces 2024 Grant Awards Totaling $278,616 to 27 Projects Spread Over 15 Counties

Idaho Heritage Trust announces the funding of 27 projects in 15 different counties totaling $278,616, as well as providing an additional $30,514 in Technical Assistance. These Heritage Grants, awarded annually, are the primary way in which IHT supports grassroots efforts to preserve and protect Idaho’s unique history and heritage, ensuring what we all love about Idaho persists for generations to come.

A full list of Grant Awardees can be found on the attached page, and IHT is currently in the process of updating the historical and technical information on each project. All updates will be live by January 2025, and you can find a specific project by visiting idahoheritagetrust.org/explore/ to search for a specific project, browse by city or county, or see what historical treasures may be hiding in your own backyard.
The majority of grants awarded by Idaho Heritage Trust help fund projects in communities of fewer than 5,000 people. “Every granting cycle gives us a chance to make a meaningful impact in every region of our state,” says Chairperson Donna Woolston. “Being able to support projects in both our cities and some of our smallest, most precious communities each year is a unique opportunity and privilege.” These projects often have an outsized impact on the residents of such communities by creating new jobs, stimulating heritage tourism, increasing civic pride, and providing a unique window into Idaho’s storied past.

Since 1990, IHT has awarded $6.5 million to 945 projects spread across the Gem State. Supported projects generally fall into four main categories: Preserving Idaho’s Historic Buildings, Revitalizing Idaho’s Historic Theatres, Restoring Idaho’s Historic Main Streets, and Researching Idaho’s Archaeology.
