Ezra Pound House (Sun Valley Center for the Arts)
Hailey, Blaine County
- Grants: 1998, 1999, 2000
Location: The Ezra Pound Birthplace, 314 Second Avenue South, Hailey, Idaho 83333
Homer Pound was appointed Register of Mines by President Chester A Arthur in 1883. While living in this stately home, his son Ezra was born in 1885 and became the first child to be christened in Emmanual Episcopal Church a mere two blocks away. The house eventually came to be known as the McKercher House after Roberta McKercher, a reporter for the Hailey Times. In 1998 the Ezra Pound Association purchased the house from the estate.
The house was gifted to the Sun Valley Center for the Arts in 2005 and has since been transformed into the Castellano-Wood Family Classroom in honor of the Sun Valley Museum of Art benefactors Benjamin Wood and Theresa Castellano-Wood. Together, the house and classroom allow SVMoA to offer classes, workshops, lectures, and performances in a location convenient to the growing population of southern Blaine County.
